How cool is your faucet?

A properly functioning valve of your diving tank is perhaps the most underexposed part in our diving training. While a valve is one of the most crucial elements of our equipment. It is subjected to a strong pressure of 200 to 300 bar and has several components that can cause problems.

Periodic cylinder inspections are required by law, officially servicing taps is not. Diving cylinders are simply containers made of thick steel. A tap will calcify and show contamination and deposits after a while. You and your buddy, breathe from this... The professional who fills and bystanders at the dive site are also at risk. Think of them too!

Although maintenance - with the right training - is not complex, this job is time-consuming and not without costs for the average diver (+- 30 euros for a single tap). Proper cleaning involves an ultrasonic bath with an acid, to remove the external and internal contamination. Plus a proper degreasing and replacing all o-rings and seats, etc. Also include the bringing in and picking up of your equipment. You pay an entrance fee for the entrance to the dive site, buy flashy stuff: but isn't that tap worth a few tens?

Rinsing your tap well after every dive is smart. Our motto: have it serviced regularly (approximately every 2.5 years), or just buy a new one.
